Exec Exclusive: Kaity Sheppard

Hi! My name is Kaity Sheppard, and I’m the Recruitment Vice President of Alpha Xi Delta. As Recruitment VP I plan the entirety of work week and recruitment week. Everything from the color of the dresses to the arrangement of the flowers goes through a rigorous approval process to make sure the days are perfect. I love my position because not only do I get to know all the potential new members coming through our doors, I also get to know the girls that are already in our chapter better. I’m a sophomore Government and Middle Eastern Language and Literature major from Chicago, Illinois. Coming to Texas was the most exciting thing to ever happen to me. I moved a thousand miles away from home to a city where I didn’t know a single person, and I absolutely loved it. While others felt homesick when moving away to college, I was so eager to start my new adventure. This adventure started with formal recruitment, and boy did I feel like a fish out of water. Recruitment in the South is really is something out of the movies. With the gorgeous houses and the hundreds of women participating, I was not prepared for the week ahead of me (on top of the fact that this was my first time experiencing 100+ degree weather).

Finding my home at Alpha Xi Delta was just the beginning of this crazy journey I have been on the last two years. As a woman who loves breaking out of her comfort zone, it seemed only fitting to run for Recruitment Assistant my freshman year, a position I knew almost nothing about. I loved learning about Recruitment from the other side and surprisingly had a knack for it, so this year I became the Recruitment Vice President for our chapter. Being the Recruitment VP this year has made life pretty hectic. From planning the layout out of the house for each day of Formal Recruitment to preparing our chapter women for the conversations they will be having throughout the week, this job has taught me organizational and leadership skills that will last a lifetime. Alpha Xi Delta has helped me reach my highest goals and continues to make my college story one of excitement.
